Review ZEISS Earliest Carl Jena Silvamar Binoculars Repair

The 130953 Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars are a rare and intriguing piece of optical history. Originating from the esteemed Carl Zeiss Jena factory in Germany, these binoculars were produced in the early 1900s, making them one of the earliest models from the Silvamar line.

The binoculars feature a classic design with a sturdy, brass frame that has developed a patina over time, adding to their vintage charm. The barrels are coated in a rich, matte black finish, contrasting beautifully with the golden brass. The central focusing knob, located on the bridge between the barrels, is easily operable and allows for precise adjustment of the two eyepieces.

The objective lenses, which are responsible for gathering light and creating the image, are large and clear. They are protected by glass covers that are held in place by small hinges, allowing for easy removal for cleaning or repair. The ocular lenses, located at the end of the barrels, are similarly high-quality and provide a sharp, crisp view.

The binoculars come with leather eye cups that are adjustable for comfort. These eye cups can be folded down when not in use, making the binoculars more compact for transport. The binoculars also have a diopter adjustment knob, located on the right eyepiece, which allows for fine-tuning of the focus for each eye to accommodate any differences in visual acuity.

The Silvamar binoculars come with a leather carry case for protection and storage. The case features a sturdy strap, allowing for easy carrying. The binoculars and case are both in good repair, with no notable damage or wear.

In conclusion, the 130953 Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars are a unique and valuable piece of optical history. With their classic design, high-quality lenses, and rich history, these binoculars are sure to be a conversation starter and a cherished addition to any collection.

Pros of buying Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars:

1. High-quality optics: Carl Zeiss is a renowned brand known for its excellent optics, and the Silvamar binoculars are no exception. They offer sharp, clear images with good color accuracy.

2. Historical value: As one of the earliest models from Carl Zeiss Jena, the Silvamar binoculars have a significant historical value. They are a collector's item and can be a fascinating addition to any vintage or antique collection.

3. Durability: Zeiss binoculars are known for their robust construction, and the Silvamar models are no exception. They are built to last and can withstand regular use.

Cons of buying Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars:

1. Age and wear: Being an older model, these binoculars may have some wear and tear. They may require repair or restoration, which can add to the cost.

2. Limited functionality: Older models may not have the same features as modern binoculars. For example, they may not have adjustable eyecups, waterproofing, or other modern features.

3. Limited availability: Due to their age and rarity, these binoculars may be harder to find. You may have to search extensively to find a good condition example.

Conclusion:

Buying Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars can be a great investment for collectors and history enthusiasts. They offer excellent optics and a sense of nostalgia. However, they may require repair or restoration and may not have the same modern features as newer models. If you're looking for a functional, high-quality pair of binoculars, you may want to consider a newer model. But if you're a collector or just appreciate the history and craftsmanship of vintage binoculars, the Silvamar could be a great addition to your collection.

Recommendation:

If you're interested in buying Carl Zeiss Jena Silvamar binoculars, I would recommend doing thorough research to ensure you're getting a good condition example. You may want to consult with a professional restorer or appraiser to assess the binoculars and determine any necessary repairs or restoration costs. Additionally, you should consider the historical value and rarity of the binoculars to help determine their worth.

Details:

You don't see a lot of 111 year old Zeiss binoculars for sale and these were basically the first binocular production their most popular model Silvamar from this famous german optics manufacturer. They are the earliest version of most famous Zeiss binocular model that I am aware. Please see pics and e-mail with any questions.

They are in rough shape, missing eye cups, chipped prism and lots of paint along with some dents. Great collectible for a binocular or Zeiss collector. Many sites list the Silvamar production from 1910 to 1975 yet these clearly pre-date that demonstrating their rarity.
